The intersection connects two major expressways, Dwarka Expressway and NH-48 to Southern Peripheral Road. As per recent reports, the intersection will be opened to the public within a few weeks from the inauguration date. On Wednesday, Rao Inderjeet Singh, the Union Minister and Gurgaon MP said in his statement that the construction work of the Cloverleaf Intersection is about to be completed. He gave this statement after attending a meeting scheduled with Nitin Gadkari to discuss various other in-progress projects in the NCR. The Cloverleaf Intersection is about 2 km long with ramps on all four sides. The authority has claimed it to be the bigger version of the Cloverleaf Intersection built in Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi. It is one of the largest constructions of its own kind in India. In the same meeting that was held on Wednesday, the ministers also talked about the construction progress of the Delhi Jaipur Highway (NH-48), the Gurgaon Pataudi Rewari Highway, and the Dwarka Expressway.

Southern Peripheral Road Gurgaon Overview

The 16 km long Southern Peripheral Road Gurgaon, known as SPR, links to various essential roads. The SPR would encompass 11 sectors between 68 and 75A, and its key USP will be a seamless connection with other Gurgaon locations. According to reports, the government may designate the section as National Highway 248.

The 90m road is already under construction. HUDA (Haryana Urban Development Authority) successfully rehabilitated the people of Rambir Ki Dhani, a hamlet that had been a barrier to the project’s completion. Once the SPR is finished, it will likely take 40 to 45 minutes to drive to the Indira Gandhi International Airport from here, while 30 minutes will get you to NH 8.

HUDA plans to complete the sector roads and other essential infrastructure on the project. Work on critical components, including sewage systems, landscaping, water supply, and power, are ongoing. Sectors 55–56 are currently served by the metro train network, which will provide inhabitants with strong connection choices. Cyber City is now also effectively connected to Golf Course Road through the underpass of the project. The travel time from Golf Course Extension Road to Golf Course Road is now around 35–40 minutes.

Once fully implemented, the SPR will connect the Golf Course Road with the NH-8. The SPR begins from the Gurgaon-Faridabad Road. The Gurgaon-Faridabad Road, which starts close to Ghatta Kanarpur, connects to National Highway 8 at a crossroads at Kherki Daula, close to the crucial Sohna Road. The location of this crossroads is Badshahpur Chowk. Along the way, it merges with the Northern Peripheral Road and travels through Sectors 48–50, 55–75, and Sector 79.

Southern Peripheral Road Master Plan

The government has planned a project to enhance the Southern Peripheral Road Gurgaon. The upgrade will include the Golf Course Extension Road and the present SPR from Vatika Chowk to Kherki Daula. The initiative aims to benefit residents of Sectors 57-71 and decrease traffic on the SPR, which connects with the Dwarka Expressway and the recently opened Sohna elevated road. The project has faced several delays in the past years. The road presently contains a few kilometres of three-lane sections before narrowing to two lanes.

The GMDA (Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority) has invited bids for upgradation and construction of the road. It will cover a distance of nearly 12 km from Ghata village on Faridabad Road to Kherki Daula on the Delhi-Gurgaon Highway. The project is planned to begin in early 2023 and complete within two years. With new developments in Sohna, Manesar, and along the Dwarka Expressway projected to start using the thoroughfare, traffic volume is expected to increase significantly from 2026.

Over 25 sectors along this stretch will have improved connectivity and easy access to various residential and commercial projects in the area. The authority plans to build this road under the engineering procurement and construction (EPC) mode, which is less expensive than other options. The project’s cost is estimated to be Rs 845 crore and will be funded by available EDC funds, cess on projects, and developers. The proposal for the upgrade was approved at the tenth meeting of the GMDA chaired by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on June 24, 2022. Also read – Packers and Movers in Gurgaon

The project includes a six-lane main road, a six-lane service road, 3m wide footpaths, and 2.5m wide cycle tracks on each side. They will also create green space adjacent to the flyovers. Additionally, new streetlights and traffic junctions on the road will be renovated.

The construction of the flyovers at eight key locations will be undertaken by the development authority, while NHAI will construct underpasses at Vatika Chowk. The flyovers will be built on intersections of Sectors 55/56 (Ghata Chowk), 58/61, 61/62 and 56/57, 50/57 and 55/62, 49/50 and 65/66, 70/71 and 69/70, Sectors 71/74 and 70/75, and Sectors 74/74A and 75/75A.
